Jeff Goldberg’s entrepreneurial path is a testament to vision, resilience, and innovation. After earning a degree in Biological Resources Engineering from the University of Maryland, he began his career as a research engineer in early-stage drug discovery biotech companies. At 26, he took a year-long sabbatical to reflect, surf, and travel across Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and the U.S., spending much of that time living in a van with his dog before settling in Kauai, HI.
It was there, while cutting bamboo for a landscaping job, that the idea for Cali Bamboo was born—an environmentally driven, for-purpose company that disrupted the sustainable building materials industry. What started in Jeff’s garage quickly scaled into the largest direct-to-consumer flooring and decking company in the U.S., generating over $200 million in annual revenue. As CEO, Jeff led product innovation, supply chain optimization, and brand-building, transforming Cali Bamboo into a market leader. Following a majority acquisition in 2015, Jeff co-founded Ballyhoo Media, a company that is revolutionizing out-of-home advertising in waterfront communities. Through innovative technology and strategic partnerships, Ballyhoo is now the largest water-based advertising company in the U.S.
Jeff’s ability to identify market gaps, develop disruptive solutions, and build high-performing teams has been a consistent theme throughout his career. His entrepreneurial approach blends innovation, sustainability, and execution, setting new standards across industries.
Personal Passions
After transitioning from CEO to Board Member in 2018, Jeff remained involved in Cali Bamboo’s growth until its final acquisition in 2021 by a publicly traded company. Since then, he has focused on real estate investment, angel investing, and advising early-stage startups, where he enjoys mentoring the next generation of business leaders.
Beyond entrepreneurship, health, longevity, and fitness have always been central to Jeff’s life. Drawing from his background in biological engineering, he has extensively studied holistic health, natural wellness, and biohacking. His passion for F45 Training—a program he considers the most effective for total-body fitness—led him to establish multiple F45 franchises in San Diego County in Carlsbad, La Costa and Coronado, making top-tier training accessible to both his community and his children, who have been joining him in workouts since they were 5 and 8 years old.
